Not on mains gas? Discover our range of energy efficient commercial LPG boilers.

There are many business premises, schools and leisure facilities in rural locations across the UK without access to a mains gas supply. If you have one of these buildings then Hamworthy Heating can help.

We have a wide choice of commercial LPG gas boilers ranging from wall hung boilers, floor standing boilers and pressure jet boilers. Below we take a look at what LPG is and why it may be suited to your premises.

What is LPG?

Liquid petroleum gas, commonly known as LPG or LP Gas, is a bi -product of crude oil refining or natural gas extraction. The propane version of LP Gas is used for central heating boilers and hot water generation. The gas can be liquefied at a moderate pressure or cooling to transform it into a liquid.

Why choose LPG?

Availability

There is a readily available supply of LP Gas and in most cases LPG boilers are specified because there isn’t a mains gas supply in the location. If you are in one of these places you have a choice between biomass boilers, oil fired boilers (including biofuel for a renewable option) and LPG boilers.

Space considerations

If you are limited on space LPG boilers can be more compact than oil fired boilers. As a liquid, LP Gas takes up less space than wood for a biomass boiler, therefore large quantities can be stored and transported easily. LPG boilers can also run quieter, another factor to consider if the boiler is located close to the point of use and to avoid noise disturbances at sites such as schools.

Efficiency and choice

LP Gas has a high calorific value that means a higher energy yield per unit volume compared with natural gas. Plus, for the commercial boiler market there is greater choice of condensing LPG boilers available than there is condensing oil boilers, enabling you to benefit from the higher efficiencies of a condensing boiler.

On the go

LPG is also used for temporary events or mobile plant rooms. You can view the temporary boiler rooms that Cedar Green supplies that include a Hamworthy LPG water heater.

How does an LPG boiler work?

LPG boilers work in the same way as a commercial boiler running on natural gas. Instead of being connected to a mains gas pipe it is connected to an LPG tank. Consideration will need to be given to storage and location of the liquid petroleum gas for the boiler, as well as the potential requirement for safety equipment such as gas detection in basement boiler houses.

Welcombe Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon

The hotel’s clubhouse with function rooms and sports bar was the last part of the refurbishment project at the Welcombe.

The old boilers were installed in a loft space plant room with awkward access.

An LPG boiler was required as there is no mains gas to this part of the estate.
