Liquid Biofuel

At Hamworthy Heating, we are meeting the commercial heating challenges of today and tomorrow.

Our new range of steel boilers for commercial heating is suitable for use with Liquid Biofuel, which can be can be used to substitute fossil fuels, allowing for another renewable energy solution from Hamworthy Heating.

Today, Liquid Biofuel is currently being used in transport fuel, and we believe Liquid Biofuel from sustainable feed stocks used for commercial heating can significantly contribute towards diminishing oil reserves, facilitate carbon reduction and prove to be a key renewable energy source in commercial heating in the future.

What is Liquid Biofuel?

Liquid Biofuel is a fuel of organic origin and suitable classifications of Liquid Biofuel for use with our steel boiler burners are FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) which is derived from vegetable oil, and RME (Rape Methyl Ester) blends up to B50, which is derived from used cooking fats. Our steel boilers can accommodate up to B100 concentrations of Liquid Biofuel for commercial heating applications, however, burners must be matched specifically to the fuel specification.

Liquid Biofuel requires much less storage space than other renewable energy heating solutions such as biomass wood chips or pellets, making it an excellent choice for commercial heating applications such as city centres where storage is limited and space at a premium.

Specifying Liquid Biofuel

When specifying Liquid Biofuel as a fuel source, it must conform to the requirements of EN 14213 and be sourced from a reputable supplier. All suppliers should be capable of demonstrating compliance with a certified quality assurance system, such as ISO 9000, and be able to supply the correct specification of Liquid Biofuel, and have accurate chemical treating transesterification procedures in place to ensure raw RME or FAME is treated sufficiently to get it to a useable Liquid Biofuel blend suitable for commercial heating requirements.

Steel boilers available for use with Liquid Biofuel include the Ensbury LT available in high efficiency models (70kW to 580kW), Melbury HE which is available in high efficiency models (530kW to 10000kW) and the Melbury C which is available in condensing models (530kW to 3000kW). A range of Hamworthy Arne Flue Gas Economisers compliment these boiler ranges.

We also provide a wide range of renewable energy heating solutions in our commercial heating product portfolio which includes Solar thermal, Biomass, Ground and Air source heat pumps.
