Hamworthy Heating has supplied the heating equipment for thirteen plant rooms at The National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Teddington, Middlesex.
NPL is a world-leading centre in the development and application of highly accurate measurement techniques. As the UK`s national standards laboratory, NPL underpins the national measurement system, ensuring consistency and traceability of measurement throughout the UK. Other areas of expertise include the design and characterisation of engineering materials, and mathematical software, especially its application to measurement and instrumentation.
Hollywell Building Services was contracted to design and install the heating system and Hamworthy supplied them with a wide range of equipment. In all, Hamworthy supplied 29 boilers with a combined total output of 5,440 kW, as well as reverse return header kits, Portland Pressurisation sets, flue systems and fan dilution products.
Of the 29 boilers supplied 11 were Purewells, 16 were Wessex and 2 were Broadstone`s averaging a total output 187.6 kW.
Bob Stephen, managing director of Hollywell Building Services, said: "Hamworthys products worked particularly well on this site as several of the plant rooms were very confined. We required high output boilers with a small footprint and this was achieved using a combination of Hamworthy Purewell and Wessex boilers."
"Hamworthy was particularly helpful during the procurement phase, advising on different boiler and flue options, which were both financially and technically advantageous and the service from their head office was very efficient enabling deliveries to be dispatched to site, as and when we required them.
"This project was operating to an extremely tight timescale and as such, we needed the support of all our suppliers to ensure a successful completion. The job was completed on time - despite site restrictions on working - and the feedback from NPL has been very positive."
