Hamworthy Heating has supplied the equipment to provide heating for the swimming pool water and air heaters at Poole Borough Councils new Kemp Welch Leisure Complex in Dorset.
The new 4.5m centre was partly funded by a National Lottery English Sports Council Grant of 2.48m. The centre includes a swimming pool, trampolining and gymnastics centre of excellence and a childrens play zone. The six-lane swimming pool has a state-of-the-art moveable floor that can adjust the depth of the water, depending on the session.
The architect of the new leisure facility was Saunders Architects, the building services consultant was BKN Associates and Heating and Cooling Services installed the heating equipment. Through Driver Engineering Ltd, Hamworthy Heating supplied equipment which included: two Portland pressurisation kits and expansion vessels and three Wessex County gas-fired boilers, as well as a twin wall flue system from its flue products division.
A spokesperson for Heating & Cooling Services said: "By working very closely with both the architect and the services designer the project has been a great success.
"Hamworthy Heatings equipment was delivered on time and we have had no problems with their products. The fact that they supplied the boilers, the pressurisation sets and the fluing system meant that we only had to deal with one company rather than several - saving on time and administration."
The Portland is a combination pressurisation unit that is capable of servicing two separate circuits for heating and/or chiller systems. This features results in space saving and lower capital costs.
The Portland primarily removes the need for a heating system header tank, pipework and additional height requirements in order to maintain minimum pressure needs. This saves on space and reduces capital costs over the alternative open vented systems. The availability of matched expansion vessels means that there is less order processing because of the single source of supply.
The Portland has the option of single or dual pumps and standard or advanced controls. This choice means customer needs can be closely matched, depending on the degree of sophistication and system design required.
Kemp Welch Leisure Centre is a dual use facility with Martin Kemp Welch School. The Leisure Centre will be used by the School during school hours and will be open to the public during evenings, weekends and school holidays.
