Hamworthy gives hearty heating boost to Wales Heart Research Institute...

Hamworthy Heating has supplied heating and hot water equipment to the Sir Geraint Evans Heart Research Institute based in Cardiff, which specialises in research for the prevention and management of heart disease.

The Institute was a major addition to the facilities of the University of Wales College of Medicine. It has become a valuable asset to the University enabling teaching, training and the dissemination of the most recent findings in the field of cardiovascular research, not just in Wales but also the United Kingdom. As a major sponsor, The British Heart Foundation played an important role in supporting the development of the Institute.

By supplying both the heating and hot water equipment, Hamworthy Heating was able to provide Sir Geraint Evans Heart Research Institute with the complete packaged concept. Advantages to this system include consistency of quality through the provision of products as a total solution package for the Client and a reduction in design and installation time.
Equipment installed by Hamworthy Heating included four Purewell P95 boilers and two Dorchester DR70 water heaters. The models were also connected with Forston 400 fan dilution systems. This type of system was chosen because the plant room is situated at ground level with a high-rise building adjacent; traditional chimney solutions would have been both impractical and unsightly.

Purewell boilers are high efficiency gas atmospheric boilers allowing efficient gas to water heat transfer of up to 81% gross and 90% nett, as opposed to traditional cast models which generally allow for 65%70% gross.

A simple and reliable design ensures that the Purewell is uncomplicated to operate, easier to maintain and has lower maintenance costs. As a more efficient boiler burning less gas, there is a reduction of CO2 gases, which means it is more environmentally friendly and also lower in fuel costs.

Dorchester water heaters operate separate circuits from heating systems, which enables accurate sizing for hot water loads. This means an increase in flexibility for end users and seasonal hot water supply savings. With a wide choice of options available, customers can closely match specific requirements. The Dorchesters directly heat so consequently there are no primary circuit heat losses, saving on overall energy costs.

The Forston 400 is a purpose built, sized and designed fan dilution product. It is suitable for those applications where a conventional flue arrangement is not practical either on technical or architectural grounds. Specifically designed to handle up to 400kW of output, the system offers a larger capacity than comparable conventional products.
