Hamworthy Heating has provided a heating solution for Erith School in Dartford through the installation of five Wessex 100 M300 boilers and a flue system.

The school, a large mixed secondary and sixth form school, is situated in Erith, Kent. It was founded in 1967 and, with over 1800 pupils, is the largest school in the Bexley London Borough. It prides itself on providing a challenging learning environment that responds to the needs of all pupils, irrespective of ability.

The heating and ventilation installation was carried out to replace existing oil fired boilers in the old part of the school. The main contractor for the installation was Frederick’s Mechanical, installing both the boilers and flue system.

Graham Taylor, an engineer from Frederick’s Mechanical, said: "The Wessex 100 M boilers provided the perfect solution for Erith school. As the boilers are modular they can react quickly to the school’s changing hot water and heating demands, increasing the efficiency of the system and ensuring that energy is not wasted."

The Wessex 100 M is the latest in the Hamworthy range of gas fired pre-mix high efficiency boilers and provides output in units of 100kW with high low control on each module. It is a rapid response boiler and has a highly efficient gas to water heat transfer with ultra low standing losses at less than 0.25%. The compact space saving design achieves up to 600 kW output per square metre and is easy to install, and is suitable for high-rise, high-pressure systems.

Operation of the Wessex 100 M300 is fully automatic with efficient pre-mix combustion, full pilot proving and individual combustion chambers for firing in any sequence. It has a cylindrical extended surface heat exchanger constructed from large bore finned copper tubes and its environmental credentials are supported by efficiencies up to 94% nett and European Class 5 performance for NOx emissions.

The flue system, which has twin wall insulation and control dampers on each boiler, fitted into an existing chimney ensuring that the installation was as aesthetically pleasing as possible.
