Bitterne Park School warms to Hamworthy Heating...

Hamworthy Heating has supplied its newly launched Purewell Classic boiler to Bitterne Park School in Southampton as part of an upgrade to the school’s heating system.

Bitterne Park is a well-established, mixed 11-16 years comprehensive school, in a suburb of Southampton, set in a site overlooking the River Itchen and Riverside Park. The school recently opened a purpose-built Learning Resource Centre and a new school garden that has been designed by pupils for use as an outdoor classroom.

The Purewell Classic is a recent addition to Hamworthy’s boiler range and the installation at Bitterne Park School is one of the first. Eight Purewell Classic modular boilers, with a total output of 960kW, have been installed at the site in a multi-casing arrangement to save space and provide a neat and tidy appearance in the plantroom.

Chris Dunne from the Property Services Department at Southampton City Council said: "The new boilers have made a big difference to the efficiency of the heating system at the school. They are new on the market and are proving to be very reliable and highly efficient. We are looking forward to many years of good service from Hamworthy Heating!"

The boilers installed at Bitterne Park are the PC120, fully automatic model, which provide high/low burner firing. They are equipped with the innovative primary flue damper and volt free contacts as standard. When the automatic damper is employed in the primary flue the standing losses are reduced by over two thirds. There is a two-stage damper on high/low boilers, which is fully interlocked with the boiler control panel, and the damper increases low fire efficiency by more than 3%.

The automatic boiler utilises a hot surface ignition system which has proved to be extremely reliable, and because there is no spark electrode to wear out, or re-set, the maintenance of the boiler is simplified.

There are eight models in the Purewell Classic range with outputs from 40kW to 120kW, and permanent pilot models are available as an alternative to the fully automatic versions.

A Marshall control system has been installed with the boilers to ensure they run effectively, this is done through one master and seven slave controllers. This system facilitates the optimum efficiency and performance of the boilers whilst gaining a longer life from them.

The controller is mounted in the fascia panel of the Purewell Classic, saving on wiring and installation costs. It also comes with a password security code to prevent unauthorised tampering making the system very secure.
